Compact and Low-Power IQADCs for (m)WiMAX/Wibro/WiFi and Digital Video Broadcast Receivers

With a clear understanding of the needs of today’s wireless broadband communications and broadcasting systems, MIPS Technologies has rolled out ADC IP products following two different lineages that are a fit for different requirements. On one hand, the network of “plugged” equipment for wireless communications typically requires large MIMO arrangements, making footprint reduction a paramount feature. On the other hand, in “un-plugged” battery-powered mobile handset equipment, it is power—both active and standby—that is the dominant concern.

The two Rx IQADC IP cores now available in 65nm LP follow this approach. The CI3536tn is the most compact 65nm 10-bit, 102 MHz IQADC available in the IP market today. It can operate in single-channel mode up to 205 MHz, making it ideal for applications that also support wired broadband communications. With internal references, dynamic power scaling and programmable full-scale range with a single 1.2V supply, the core is 40 percent smaller than other cores in its class while exhibiting power dissipation comparable to its closest competitors.

The CI3554tn is the lowest-power 10-bit 80 MSPS IQADC instantiated in 65nm. With 1.2V/2.5V supplies and appropriate power conservation modes, this core burns 30 percent less power than its competitors in this class, while showing comparable footprints to its closest competitors. This family of converters positions MIPS Technologies as a differentiated supplier of solutions for wireless communications applications such as mWiMAX (802.16e) / Wibro and WiFi (802.11a/b/g/n), as well as for digital media receivers in applications such as mobile TV (DVB-H / DMB / ISDB / MediaFLO, CMMB).

Other IP cores for these same applications are available here.

New MIPI D-PHY in TSMC 40nm LP for Mobile Applications

MIPS Technologies is pleased to announce tapeout of its new MIPI D-PHY in TSMC 40nm LP. The new CI21231tq is the industry’s first IP to answer customer needs for a MIPI D-PHY, required when developing SoCs for mobile applications. This new IP can be used with standard MIPI interfaces like CSI and DSI—also under development.
