19th Annual EDN Innovation Awards
The MIPS32® 1004K Coherent Processing System (CPS), the industry’s first embedded multi-threaded, multiprocessor licensable IP core, was named a finalist in the prestigious annual Innovation Awards from EDN Magazine. According to Brad Holtzinger, Vice President of Worldwide Sales and Corporate Marketing for MIPS Technologies, “This is yet another honor in a series of recent accolades given to the 1004K CPS, reflecting an understanding among technologists of the merits of our multi-core technology.” Visit the EDN website to review each of the nominees and cast your ballot for the 1004K CPS!

Audio line driver saves space in multimedia apps
EE Times Asia writes about MIPS Technologies’ new linearized line driver IP. According to the article, the new linearized digital audio line driver is a significant addition to MIPS’ audio IP solutions. It replaces the traditional Class A/AB line driver, resulting in an area savings of approximately 50 percent, while keeping the same Hi-Fi performance. Read more here.

The Hot 100 Electronic Products of 2008
The MIPS32® 1004K CPS was named to EDN Magazine’s “Hot 100 Products” list for 2008. According to Rick Nelson, editor-in-chief of EDN, “We believe that the combination of multi-threading and multiprocessing capabilities in MIPS Technologies’ 1004K core make it one of the hottest products of 2008 in our ‘Processors and Tools’ category.” Read more here.

Editor’s Choice Products
The MIPS32® 1004K CPS
was selected as an “Editor’s Choice Product.” According to Editor Jerry Gipper, “With frequency scaling limited by power constraints, using multicore processors traditionally was one of the best ways to improve processor performance and manage a reasonable power consumption budget. But when designers made their own chipsets, they had no other options for multicore processor IP - until now.” Read more here.

New Textbook Explains Real-Time Programming of MIPS
Processors
In this article, EDN Asia editors describe the new textbook from Express Logic and MIPS
Technologies. The book, about real-time software development, is written by by Edward L. Lamie, PhD, Professor Emeritus and former Computer Science Department Chair at
California State University, Stanislaus. The book, Real-Time Embedded Multithreading: Using ThreadX and
MIPS
, introduces software developers to the use of an RTOS, and offers examples of the use of application threads to manage real-time programming on MIPS-Based platforms. Click here for the full story.

The State of Semiconductor IP: 12 Experts Speak Out
Warren Savage of IPextreme interviewed 12 industry luminaries, including MIPS
Technologies’ vice president of marketing. The interviews were published in a 3-part series in Chip Design magazine. The goal of the interviews was to assess the level of consensus in the industry regarding the current state and future of the semiconductor IP industry. Click here for more.
