  • MIPS recently introduced a new debug product. The Hot Spot Analyzer (HSA) is a new software utility for MIPS’ family of System Navigator EJTAG probes that enables fast, accurate profiling of the Linux kernel. With the HSA - which builds on the unique Zero Overhead Program Counter (PC) Sampling feature built into MIPS32® core families, software engineers can quickly identify program bottlenecks that may be restricting system performance.   • MIPS Technologies recently announced its first European University Program with the University of Porto, a prestigious Portuguese engineering school. The partnership will provide a foundation for educational research by the masters and doctoral programs of the school’s Electrical and Computer Engineering Department. As part of the multi-year agreement, MIPS will offer a hands-on design initiative for engineering students and help prepare them for careers in semiconductor design, where a large number of companies are already leveraging MIPS’ IP in a wide array of embedded designs. In the near future, MIPS plans to broaden this type of program in other regions around the world.

  • José Franca, President and General Manager of the MIPS Analog Business Group, was chosen by the jury of the Historical Society of Portugal Independence to receive the Society’s highest honor for 2008—the “Aboim Sande Lemos – Identidade Portuguesa.” Each year, the Portuguese Identity Prize recognizes people or entities for their unique and notable accomplishments that have contributed to strengthening the Portuguese identity and cultural image of Portugal around the world. Professor Franca was selected for his achievements related to the founding of Chipidea and its contribution to global technology development. The Prize was awarded during a formal ceremony on May 26th at Lisbon’s Palace of Independency.
