New Silicon-Validated DACs for Long Term Evolution (LTE) Applications

The CI8551tn is a 12-bit 80 MHz current steering I&Q DAC instantiated in a 65nm 1P6M CMOS technology supplied at 1.2/2.5 V. This high-speed DAC is suitable for the transmit sections of high-speed mobile communications applications such as LTE/4G, and also meets requirements for WiMAX (802.16e), WiBro and WLAN (802.11). These applications require excellent balance between high update rates, high dynamic range and low power dissipation. The CI8551tn provides users with gain programmability features and can be easily configured to provide several voltage and current-mode output options to allow seamless integration and interface in a variety of systems. Other IP cores for these same applications are available here.

Just Announced! Expansion of MIPS HDMI IP Portfolio

MIPS has expanded its HDMI IP portfolio with the industry’s first 45nm IP cores, as well as 90nm IP cores in silicon. 65nm HDMI IP cores are now silicon-proven, and were recently nominated for Embedded System Product of the Year in the annual Elektra European Electronics Industry Awards.

MIPS Technologies’ HDMI interface IP (Controller + PHY) is available in the world’s major foundries for both transmit (Tx) and receive (Rx) functions. MIPS’ HDMI IP cores now support all video modes compliant to CEA-861-D, as well as the I2S and S/PDIF digital audio formats.

New HDMI PHY IP: Coming Soon!

MIPS Technologies is also extending its 65nm HDMI portfolio in response to high customer demand. The following new IP cores will be released soon:

  • HDMI Rx PHY in TSMC 65nm LP
  • HDMI Tx PHY in TSMC 65nm G+, 2.5V
  • HDMI Tx PHY in TSMC 65nm G+, 1.8V
  • DMI Tx PHY in CSM 65nm LPe

MIPS Technologies’ HDMI PHYs represent the industry’s most competitive HDMI PHY IP in the market, including:

  • Analog programmability to allow safe integration within a system
  • Area below 1mm2
  • Application-specific solutions including low-power IP for mobile applications and standard IP for high-performance applications

Other technology nodes will be made available throughout the year. More information about our HDMI IP cores can be found here.

New USB PHY in SMIC 90nm and new USB PHY in CSM 65nm LPe

MIPS Technologies offers a one-stop-shop for USB solutions, reducing integration risk through complete USB subsystems. With MIPS, designers have access to IP blocks for all of their USB needs.

MIPS has the broadest USB PHY offering in the market with USB PHYs in the most advanced technology nodes. The new CI12323km USB 2.0 OTG PHY in SMIC 90nm and new CI12345cn USB 2.0 OTG PHY in CSM 65nm LPe are the latest additions to the portfolio, with the most advanced features:

  • Reduced power consumption and a compact, silicon-saving design for leading-edge mobile applications
  • Outstanding/superior “Analog Programmability” for fine-tuning of a system’s analog parameters, leading to excellent performance results in silicon
  • Link Power Management and Charger Detection functionality for a wide range of applications

More information about our USB PHYs can be found here.

Multi-Standard Programmable Sigma Delta ADCs

MIPS Technologies’ Sigma Delta ADC IP portfolio (CI3383) covers a wide number of technologies. With multi-standard capability and digital filtering flexibility, it matches a broad range of communications applications, including cellular 3G and mobile-TV.

The CI3383 Programmable Sigma Delta family addresses the high-resolution application space, and has up to 4 MHz bandwidth signals. Digital filtering and oversampling decrease analog filter requirements, enabling these IP cores to scale well with process nodes—greatly increasing silicon utilization efficiency.

The latest addition to the portfolio is the Programmable Broadband Sigma-Delta (CI3384tn), a general purpose sigma-delta IQ-ADC—assembled as a matched pair—that covers signal bandwidths from 100 kHz up to 10 MHz. The IP is optimized for low power consumption and its core area is only 0.7mm2. It is targeted for applications such as analog baseband chips in cellular LTE, TV tuners, WiMAX and WLAN. The IP is currently available in TSMC 65nm LP CMOS, 1P6M, and is portable to other submicron CMOS technologies.
