It is a fairly polished product. One of the issues is that the NDK that google provides target's ARM chips directly. For most apps, this is not a problem. However, for other apps, they simply won't work on the MIPS android device. Another issue is that Flash does not work although Flash on MIPS (not specifically Android MIPS) has been achieved. Though Microchip is great, user always prefers an architecture with greater number of "brotherly" vendors. This is especially important for the companies with large scale production so they can switch their design easily when "screwed-up" by a vendor.
