MIPS Technologies' HDMI IP Solutions: Enabling Portable, Low-Power HDMI Connectivity for SoC Designers
HDMI (High-Definition Multimedia Interface) has emerged as the dominant digital interface for a wide array of consumer electronics, becoming today's de facto standard for creating high-bandwidth, streamlined connections between digital devices. MIPS Technologies' expertise in high-performance analog and connectivity IP solutions like USB uniquely positions us to offer the most comprehensive HDMI IP solution at the most advanced geometries-including a PHY and digital controller for both transmit and receive applications.
Our HDMI IP offering is the first available in 65nm, and is uniquely optimized for HDMI connectivity in low power, portable transmit applications including digital still cameras, camcorders, portable media players, handheld game consoles and cell phones, as well as digital home receive applications such as high-definition DTVs and display units, A/V receivers and set-top boxes.
With MIPS' HDMI IP solutions, System-on-Chip (SoC) designers can now incorporate the HDMI interface in their chip designs. Our IP eliminates the need for a separate IC, reducing the overall system cost of implementing HDMI in consumer devices. The flexibility for SoC designers to include or exclude HDMI features as needed, versus incorporating the entire robust specification, results in further cost, power and space savings.
We created new HDMI 1.3 TX/RX Interface IP (Controller + PHY) specifically with SoC designers' needs in mind. In addition to the "standard" HDMI interface, our IP offers a wide array of customizations and optional features including:
Designers can also incorporate the standalone HDMI 1.3 TX PHY, the most
competitive HDMI PHY in the market, in terms of area (0.9mm2), power
consumption (well below the market average of 100mw for mobile devices)
and programmability.
