As we have done each year since 2002, MIPS Technologies will hold a Technical Seminar in Israel in 2010. We hope you can join us!
Our annual Seminar is designed to inform you and strengthen the relationship between MIPS and the chip design community in Israel, offering in-depth information about our best-in-class CPU IP solutions, and highlighting our strong cooperation with key companies that help to speed customers’ creation of unique embedded designs.
This year, the Seminar will focus on three main topics:
1. MIPS Goes Mobile! - With the advent of Android and the move toward 4G, MIPS is gaining increasing traction in the mobile world. We’ve scored a number of important design wins, not only in WiFi, WiMAX, femtocells, infrastructure and other technologies that surround the handset, but also in the handset itself, with companies designing MIPS-Based baseband and applications processors. This is a major change in the mobile world, and we are very excited about it. The time has come to put an end to the monopoly and let customers select the best processor based on its merits!
2. Getting Ready for Google TV - Android-based, advanced High Definition TVs are fast becoming a reality. By taking the lead in driving Android into the living room and the "big screen" of our home TVs, and by striking alliances with Google, Adobe, Skype, Yahoo! and many other key companies, MIPS is enabling our licensees to succeed in the Android TV era. See how modern smart TVs are designed, and how the whole new concept behind the home TV experience is developing - and get ready for Google TV!
3. New CPU Launch - Following a many-year tradition, MIPS will introduce a brand-new CPU core during our Technical Seminar in Israel. The MIPS32® 1074K™ Coherent Processing System (CPS) offers industry-leading speed for fully-synthesizable multicore IP. Using commercially-available standard cell libraries, memories and EDA design flows, the 1074K CPS approaches production frequencies of 1.5 GHz in 40nm G process. It will be described in great detail by our VP of Hardware Engineering. Some members of our Israeli user community have already expressed interest in starting projects with this new core.

As always, we'll also feature a MIPS Ecosystem Exposition during the Seminar, where select members of the MIPS Ecosystem can display their new products and highlight their cooperation with MIPS.
This year, the Exposition will be wholly dedicated to the "MIPS Goes Mobile" theme, and will include a select group of MIPS partners in the Mobile domain including:
Each of our Mobile friends will present very compelling LIVE DEMOS of MIPS-Based systems where their expertise is demonstrated. Here is a short summary of the demos to be presented:
- AAC Audio and H.264 video playback along with Android multimedia framework running on a MIPS platform, by AllGo Embedded
- LTE reference design on the MIPS-Based OCTEON Plus platform from Cavium Networks
- Full suite of location-based applications on a MIPS32® 74K™ platform running Android, with the ACLYS single-die, single chip GPS solution, by CellGuide
- Innovative SoC combining Imagination's POWERVR™ SGX 3D Graphics IP and a high-performance MIPS32 24Kf™ processor, from Imagination Technologies
- Simultaneous voice calls, video calls and HSDPA data transfer using a UMTS femtocell based on the MIPS-Based PRC6X00 baseband processor from Percello
- Simultaneous development and debug cellular-like environment for Android and ThreadX on MIPS cores using CodeSourcery G++ and Ronetix JTAG debugger, from Pertech Embedded Solutions
- GPU silicon solutions paired with MIPS processors delivering breakthrough performance on applications such as Android, Adobe Flash Player, GUI and Web acceleration, compute shading and immersive 1080p gaming, from Vivante Corporation
- Rapid 2D/3D customization and differentiation of the Android User Interface from simple home screen replacement to full application integration on a MIPS/GPU platform utilizing OpenGL/ES 2.0, by Mentor.
- The ThreadX RTOS running on the Altair FourGee-3100 Baseband Processor compliant with the 3GPP LTE 4G Standard. The demonstration outlines a complete debug flow of the ThreadX RTOS using MIPS development tools and the Altair LTE processor, by Sightsys.
- Usage of Virtual Prototypes for Linux-based Mobile Devices: Synopsys will demonstrate just how fast Yamon and Linux operating systems can boot on a MIPS Malta board virtual prototype. AND: From a Click to a Digital Photo: digital photography virtual prototypes based on a MIPS32 24K core can enable unprecedented full hardware/software visibility and control, allowing your device development to start early (pre-RTL) and be more efficient, by Synopsys.
- Demo 1: Arriba Android Adoption Kit for MIPS-Based Designs (AAK - 2.x Android -Eclair) plug-in demonstration - statically detect and eliminate software defects in a mobile application on a MIPS32® 24KEc™ processor core; Demo 2: Static code analysis using the Microsoft Visual Studio 2008 plug-in (developed by Coverity Inc.) as a bug detection and coding standard enforcement tool for a MIPS target running a Windows CE 6 mobile application. By Engineering Software Lab – ESL (The Israeli Center for Static Code Analysis and Dynamic Testing)
