Microsoft's robust embedded Windows® CE operating system combined with the industry-standard MIPS® architectures offer systems designers a compelling solution for multifunctional, multimedia, next-generation consumer devices.

Since the inception of Windows CE, MIPS Technologies has worked closely with Microsoft. Microsoft initially wrote and developed Windows CE using MIPS-based™ processors to test the code. And its latest version, Windows CE .NET, supports both 32- and 64-bit MIPS processor architectures and cores. In fact, Microsoft worked with MIPS Technologies and NEC to optimize Windows CE .NET for 64-bit MIPS architecture - the first 64-bit architecture supported by this operating system.

The MIPS-based processors are ideally suited to Windows CE applications because they offer:
  • The industry's broadest range of 32- and 64-bit processors
  • The highest performance and lowest power consumption
  • 40% greater code density with MIPS16e™ code compression
  • Multiple CPU/cache/peripheral options
  • MIPS-3D™ for superior multimedia functionality
  • 64-bit processing to speed encryption by 4x
  • Widespread development support
